Abstract
Background and objective: Gastric cancer is a heterogeneous and complicated human disease. The high mortality rate of gastric cancer has made it a critical health challenge worldwide. The aim of this study is to investigate the inhibitory effects of gold (III)-Hydantoin complex on AGS cell line migration through changes in the expression of genes involved in the migration process, MMP14, Snail, and miR-22.
Methods: AGS cells were cultured and treated with 3,5 µg/ml of the gold (III)-Hydantoin complex. The cell migration was investigated in the treatment and control groups by the scratch assay. The expression level of MMP14, Snail and miR-22 were examined using qRT-PCR.
Results: The scratch assay results revealed that the gold complex was able to inhibit cell migration compared to the control group. The gold complex significantly reduced the expression of MMP14.
Although The gold complex did not significantly affect the reduction of Snail expression. On the other hand, miR-22 showed increased expression compared to the reference gene.

Conclusion: The gold (III)-Hydantoin complex exert inhibitory effects on AGS cell migration by modulating miR-22 expression and regulating expression target genes MMP14 and Snail. Considering the complexity of the underlying molecular pathways, further studies are required to clarify the exact mechanism of action of this complex.
